TAVISTOCK Cricket Club player Rhys Davies made a great start for Devon after being selected to play in the county's three day minor county game versus Cornwall at Exeter. On the first day of the match with his side struggling Rhys smashed the Cornish side around the park before being out for 55 —hitting five sixes on the way.
Davies, aged 18, will be the first Tavistock player to play for the county since Jack Davey in 1965 and, following his retirement from Gloucestershire, in 1981.
Davies, who is captain of Kings College Taunton cricket XI, hit a powerful 158 of 66 balls last week against Wellington School.
Tavistock president Stuart Munday said that he had more than earned his place with his powerful hitting and fine batting. Devon's director of cricket Keith Donohue already sees him as a player for the future.
