FOUR of Tavistock's brightest stars were selected to represent their county at the South West Inter County Athletics Championships held at Exeter on July 15.

Heather Fell, Lily Mills and Harry Herdman wore the blue vest of Devon with Sam Lane de Courtin proudly wearing the black and gold for Cornwall.

This was a high calibre event which also featured the Olympic-bound athletes from Swaziland, Ghana and Papua New Guinea.

Heather Fell took part in the 5,000 metres and came in with a season's best time of 18 minutes 18 seconds to take second place in the senior women's competition.

Sam Lane de Courtin achieved a personal best time in the 2,000 metres steeplechase. His determined effort saw him cross the line in second place in his under 17 category in a time of 6 minutes 47.96 seconds.

Under 15 girl Lily Mills took part in two events. In the shot putt she came in third place with a throw of 8.18 metres while in her javelin she threw 24.17 metres which saw her finish in fifth position.

Under 13 boy Harry Herdman also featured in two events plus the anchor position in the relay.

He managed a personal best time of 14.00 seconds in the 100 metres which got him into sixth place.

He took fourth place in the 800 metres in a time of 2 minutes 32.88 seconds.

His Devon team managed third place in the 4 x 100 metres relay to end off a very rewarding day for all of the Tavistock athletes.
