DEVON Community Foundation has awarded a grant of £2,500 to the Tavistock Specials.

The Tavistock Specials are a football team made up of players with learning difficulties and special needs.

Allen Lewis, the co-founder of the Tavistock Specials, said: 'We are absolutely thrilled to get this much needed grant from the Devon Community Foundation.

'Running a club at this level costs a lot of money and we enjoy competing against other teams in the Ability Counts leagues.

'Again a huge thank you from all at the Tavispecials FC to the Devon Community Foundation.'

Laura Hewitt from DCF added: 'We are delighted to be able to support this fantastic group. It is groups like this working on the frontline that are so essential to our communities. It's what makes DCF so important to ensure that together with donors and local groups we can build strong and vibrant communities for everyone in Devon, both now and for the future.'
