RACING day for the Dartmoor Model?Boat Club six metre class, Saturday, February 3: the six metre class are rather large graceful boats which are scaled down models of the full size six metre class.

They are quite heavy, and sail exactly like their full size counterparts. The day was cold and grey, with a very brisk wind and the race officer laid the buoys out in an Olympic style course in the hope some competitors would arrive.

Eventually, six well lagged skippers with their boats arrived, but only three actually raced due to radio problems.

Two headsails were blown out, splitting at the middle seams, and other damage was inflicted due to the extremely powerful gusts of wind.

The racing was very tight, with only two skippers being in any contention, these being Steve Watts with his Ravenna, and Tim Nicholas with John Kiff’s Drisky.

The results were: 1, Steve Watts, Ravenna, ten points, second Tim Nicholas, Drisky, 15 points.

The International One Metre class will be racing on Saturday February 10 at Shaugh Lakes. Visitors will be welcome as always.
