Whitchurch v Tiverton

IN an ironic gesture Whitchurch Wayfarers were made team of the week in the Devon League for their first win of season.

Playing for the first time in three weeks and facing bottom of the table Tiverton it was a game that Whitchurch really needed to win.

Put in to bat Tiverton struggled from the start. Reed was out in the first over and the bowlers remained on top. Stokes (one for 28) and Towl (1-31) bowling tidily on a track that was still damp. Kerswell (4-44) came on and quickly found his length. At 59 for four things didn't look good for Tiverton. Hutchinson and Parr made something of a recovery, both scoring 33. It was Parr that looked the more dangerous as he hit two sixes and three fours before he was well stumped down the leg side by Martin Credicott.

150 was a below par score but Whitchurch nearly made a mess of it. More than half of the total was made by Richard Hall (23), playing for the first time for many weeks, first with Credicott (21) and then Billy Barriball (33).

The home side were cruising at 110 for three then the wheels came off as four wickets fell for four runs. The middle order disappeared and nervous glances were exchanged. Dickinson, who had bowled well earlier, was having nothing to do with this.

He strode out to the middle and smacked the ball for one 6 and 2 fours in a quick fire 15 that took the home side over the line.
