THE South West Lakes Trust said they are proud of the acheivement of Tavistock's Saschia Sills, a frequent user of its facilities at Roadford Lake.

Angie Martelli, head of countryside and leisure for South West Lakes Trust said: 'Who would have thought that 7 year old Saskia Sills who learnt to windsurf at the Roadford Lake junior club would receive the prestigious YJA Pantaenius Young Sailor of the Year Award 10 years on. On many occasions Saskia had to be towed to the bank by the ever enthusiastic instructors, she would disappear for a while, warm up and get out there again. Saturday mornings at the lake are dedicated to coaching youngsters to sail and windsurf. The Sills family have spent the past ten years transporting their three talented youngsters up and down the A30 from Launceston to training sessions at the lake and all over the country.'

'Saskia has been seen racing across the water with a sail that would be hard to control by a fully grown man! She has braved the coldest winters in Devon and her determination has been rewarded. Well done from all of us at South West Lakes Trust.'

There are many windsurfing opportunities at Roadford available on site range from RYA courses, a junior club for ages 8 years and upwards, Team 15 which is a network of clubs where windsurfers aged 15 and under get together every week to sail and have fun, or you can just hire a windsurf or launch your own craft.

The junior club runs on Saturday mornings throughout the season and is open for all abilities, from the complete beginner to the more advanced, giving youngsters the opportunity to learn to sail or windsurf in a fun and safe environment.
