Clyst Saint George

Yelverton Bohemians

YELVERTON slipped to a seven-wicket defeat at the hands of Clyst St George in a 'run-fest' in East Devon.

Yelverton racked up an imposing 277 all out off 44.1 overs with useful contributions coming from Dave Scott (68), Ramesh Perera (48), Steve Luffman (40), Matt Tamsett (33) and Rich Townsend (29).

Julian Welland (3-46) and John Meredith (3-45) were the successful bowlers for the home side.

Clyst were not fazed by the large run-chase with the small boundaries at their Bohea Field ground.

Opening pair Dan Takle and Chris Ferro put on 85 for the first wicket before veteran Chris Pearson (25-1) bowled Tackle in the 20th over when he had made 27.

Ferro was joined in the middle by Matt Cook and Cook in particular looked to be positive from the start, taking 31 off Geoff Brain's two overs. This appeared to give the home side the impetuous they needed and the short square boundaries in particular allowed Ferro and Cook to push the scoring rate up towards the required eight runs per over.

The pair put on 169 for the second wicket with Cook moving to his century before he was caught on the boundary by Dave Scott off the bowling of Pat Hobbs (2-36) for a well played 107.

Clyst's skipper John Meredith came and went for duck, adjudged lbw off Hobbs, with the score on 257 and Ferro was joined in the middle by Allen Welsh.

The pair finished the job off, scoring the remaining 22 runs required for victory with Ferro also moving to his century (105 not out) in the process. Welsh was 11 no at the other end.

This was a great game with more than 550 runs scored on the day.

Clyst St George (20pts) beat Yelverton (6pts) by seven wickets.
