A SWIM teacher working at Parklands Leisure Centre has been named the Leisure Connection 'Swim Teacher of the Year.'

Debbie Webber has taught swimming at Parklands for the last four years, and has been recognised for her hard work and dedication to her students and the centre over the past year.

A great example of how Debbie's work has helped others is swimmer Pat Cole. Following a heart attack three years ago, Pat joined Parklands to take part in swimming lessons so that she could finally learn to swim.

With the help of Debbie, Pat is now able to swim 30 lengths of the pool, and does so five times a week.

Debbie Webber said: 'I am so thrilled to have been voted Swim Teacher of the Year by my peers.

'It is always a pleasure to help and support my students, and I take immense pride when they finally overcome their boundaries and learn to swim after so many years, like Pat. I look forward to more years here at Parklands Okehampton.'

Jon Smith, contract manager at Parklands, said: 'We're extremely proud of Debbie to have been awarded Swim Teacher of the Year by Leisure Connection.

'She has worked at the centre for four years and has inspired so many of our members. It is truly well deserved.'
