OKEHAMPTON Otters competed at Plymouth Life Centre over the weekend. Taking a squad of ten swimmers the Otters held their own when competing in around 40 events against other clubs from Devon and Cornwall.

The Otters did fantastically well, getting lots of personal best times and achieving six gold medals, three silver medals and five Bronze medals.

Head coach David Dennis said this was a brilliant effort.

He said: ‘I did not expect so many medals or such big jumps in personal best times. Credit needs to go to our excellent coaching team, with the young coaches of Jessica, Mollie and George bringing more modern ways of thinking to our club; then we have the experience of Fiona, Nick, Charlie, Dave B and Dave R giving us all much-needed guidance.

‘We are moving in the right direction. Thanks must go to the help from the team managers I received over the weekend, Rachael, Avril, Lucy and Andrew, without them we couldn’t have entered anyone.

‘The whole club should be proud. As we move in to the summer break we can look back at the start of 2018 as a success, from having our first Devon swimmer this year and looking like we will have the option of entering a few more.

‘We also had a swimmer for the first time in over 10 years who got two regional times. I myself was lucky enough to be picked as one of four skills coaches for Devon.’
