ONE busy weekend followed another for Okehampton Running Club with a good turnout for the Great South Run, the Tavy 7 and the South Molton Struggle.
The Great South Run is Europe's leading 10 mile road race attracting 21,000 runners to the fast and flat course around Portsmouth through the historic dockyard past HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and the Mary Rose. Among the runners were ORC's Ali Holliday, Carol Cornwall and Tracey Mills who not only ran the distance but raised £1,100 for MS. Ali and Carol posted 1 hour 36 minutes 01 seconds, five minutes faster than last year, and Tracey finished in 1.37.02.
In Tavistock, at neighbouring club Tavistock AC's Tavy 7, the first ORC runner over the line in 13th place was Andy Vernon. Many congratulations go to Janet White who was taking part in her first race at the age of 64 - proving that age is no barrier to taking up the sport. She won the second prize in the FV60 age group and set a new ORC ladies' record for seven miles.
ORC times: Andy Vernon 45.23 (2nd MV45), Mervyn Rice 51.22, Charlotte Radnor 56.23, Jo Fletcher 56.32, Christine Fritsch 1.02.33, Jackie Dawes 1.03.06, Cathy Carey 1.07.59, Heidi Wills 1.08.01, Janet White 1.14.40, Claire Sprague 1.19.22, Sarah Budd-Bell 1.19.22.
At the South Molton Struggle, Anne Binns flew the flag for ORC completing the 7.8 multi track course in 1.07.20.
