OKEHAMPTON Running Club members have been representing the club on four different terrains this week.
The first race was on the track on June 22. The second race was on part of Dartmoor on Saturday while on Sunday it was a race on the roads at the Torbay Half Marathon or in an Area of Outstanding Beauty for the North Devon Marathon.
The Devon County 10,000 metres Championships were held at Tavistock on the evening of June 22.
First in for ORC was Andy Vallance who was sixth overall and second veterans 35 in 35 minutes 51 seconds. Stuart May was first V45 in 40.57. Unfortunately Roger Voaden’s run was cut short after five laps due to a leg injury but he made the right decision to stop rather than enduring the remaining laps.
Katie Littlejohns took to the fells and ran in the Dartmoor Beer and Bacon Fell Race. She continued her excellent recent form by finishing first lady in hour 07 minutes. The race took in Brat Tor, Hare Tor and Great Links Tor as well as some cooling river crossings.
In North Devon Jeremy Tandy took part in the Marathon which has quickly established itself as one of the most challenging and visually stunning events in the UK. He finished in 4hrs 07mins and was 32nd overall and sixth in his age group (M 40-45).
At Torbay six members of ORC took part in the half marathon which contained just one small hill between Paignton and Torquay but nothing compared to what they are used to in Okehampton! There was a lovely long flat stretch on Torquay seafront as well. The conditions were warm but overcast.
ORC results were: Graham Bryant 1.32.23, Anne Binns 2.02:16, Lora Medland 2.02.47, Caroline Wilson 2.05.16, Claire Kelly 2.12.38 and Andy Humberstone 2.32.35.
