THE Okehampton Running Club's awards evening took place at the Pavilion in the Park, where members enjoyed an excellent buffet meal before the presentation of awards by the club chairman Tim Watson and vice chairman Cathy Carey, followed by a quiz with Perry Vallance as quiz master.
The award winners were decided by the members themselves who nominated their choice in each category — each award going to the person with the most votes.
As well as the more serious categories there were some unusual prizes, including sticking plasters, duct tape and a hula hoop for the best looper, most accident prone, most talkative and best moaner!
Certificates were presented for the award scheme run by the club when members have the chance to beat a time over a total of six distances for a bronze, silver, gold or diamond award. Three members achieved a 'full house' of six awards these being Andy Vallance, Stuart May and Marilyn Cooper.
Awards: club member of the year, Cathy Carey; highest achiever male, Roger Voaden; highest achiever female, Marilyn Cooper; best coach male, Tim Watson; best coach female, Lucy Skye; hardest trainer male, Rob Kelly; hardest trainer female, Mags Jarvis; most improved male, Jeremy Tandy; most improved female, Janet White; best newcomer, Claire Stanbury.
