FIVE members of Okehampton Running Club travelled over the border to the Edinburgh Marathon Festival to take part in the marathon and 10K races held over the weekend. For Detlef Schoenfeld and Emma Sizmur this was their first attempt at the 26.2 mile distance. Edinburgh is a fast course taking the runners out of the city via Holyrood Park and on to Musselburgh from where there was an out and back section returning to the finish at Musselburgh. Detlef broke the magic four hour time to finish first of the ORC runners in 3.57.57 and Emma completed in 4 hours 09 minutes 36 seconds. Deborah is a veteran of several marathons including London and New York. Despite feeling below par due to a cold she finished in 4.25.57 raising in the region of £400 for Cancer Research. The previous day Katie Littlejohns and Liz Harris ran in the EMF 10K with Katie completing in 52.53 and Liz in 1.05.22. The Coastal Trail Series Endurance life 10K at Flete, South Devon, took place in very wet conditions and saw the sole ORC representative, Heather Richards, finish this tough course in 1.19.06. The Chagford Two Hills Race is now in its 35th year. This is a moorland hill race of 3.45 miles with a 1,076 feet ascent up to the top of both Meldon and Nattadon Hills. There was a good result for the club with three members in the top 16 places.
