HOCKEY teams from Plymouth Marjons, Honiton, Sidmouth and Ottery and Teign travelled to Okehampton at the weekend to participate in the Devon veteran ladies’ hockey tournament. It was the first time that the club had hosted it.
Devon Hockey supported the event and appointed four highly skilled umpires. This alone was a superb learning opportunity for two of the Okehampton trainee umpires, Chris Luxton and Viv Weatherington. They were provided with coaching and support while umpiring some of the matches. Congratulations to both of them as they successfully achieved their level 1 umpiring award.
All the teams played each other over the course of the day. While Plymouth Marjons were the well deserving winners an excellent day of competitive but friendly hockey was had by all.
The sports pavilion kindly provided refreshments to players and supporters alike throughout the day and even the Okehampton weather played its part by remaining dry for the duration of the event despite the forecasted rain storms.
Okehampton really did pull out all the stops to host an extremely enjoyable day of hockey. The club thank all the players who participated, but in particular to Louise Weller who organised the whole competition.
