Four local amateur golfers took to the fairways of legendary golf course Wentworth for the final of the Volvo UK Golf Challenge.
All regular players at Okehampton Golf Club Rod Jones, Will Kinkead, Paul Prouse and David Williams competed over two gruelling rounds at Wentworth, the venue of the 1952 Ryder Cup.
Williams, who resides in North Tawton, finished in the top ten of the competition after posting a Stableford score of 52 across the two rounds. Paul Prouse and Will Kinkhead, both from Okehampton, placed 16th and 22nd respectively while Rod Jones, from Spreyton, finished in 27th.
BBC presenter Dan Walker hosted the awards ceremony at the close and the 40 finalists were also joined by celebrity company on the course with Walker and footballer Joey Barton taking to the tees.
The local quartet all entered a qualifier at Okehampton Golf Club and obtained four of the top 40 scores in the UK at the regional stage of the Volvo National Golf Challenge, where nearly 100 Volvo dealerships hosted an event. The events were all run in partnership with Help for Heroes, with this year's fundraising expected to surpass the impressive £52,000 total that was amassed last year.
Rod Jones said: 'Okehampton Golf Club is proud and delighted that four of their members reached the final which is a great achievement, especially in its centenary year. On behalf of all of us I'd like to thank all the staff and officials at Volvo, Wentworth and the Oakley Hotel Windsor for making the two days unforgettable. Also a special thanks to Ashley Moon and Beverley Lawson at Okehampton Golf Club and Clive Woodward at Kastner Exeter Volvo for their tireless work behind the scenes.'
