FATHER and son Richard and George Nye from North Tawton took part in the WKC British kickboxing championships in Manchester on Sunday and came away with great success.

They were competing for a place on the  WKC England squad  to fight in the world championships in Portugal in November.

George, on top form, dominated his fight from start to finish, outclassing his opponent with  some spinning head kicks and hook kicks, along with strong punches to win by eight points to one to take the gold and the British title.

Richard, who only went up to support his son George, was asked to step in at the last minute to enter the veterans' section. In only his second points fight ever he came away with a bronze medal and a place on the England squad.

Both father and son will be back up to Manchester on February 23 to continue the fighting selection in the WKC British kickboxing championship. Richard is hoping to match his son's gold  having won this title twice before as a continuous fighter in the veterans' section.
