MEMBERS of Bere Alston Trekkers (BATs) took part in last weekend's Muskie Madness which forms part of this year's Grand Prix. The Muskie Madness is 5.5-miles of undulating multi-terrain taking runners through Ham Woods in Plymouth which, after the day's heavy downpours, was wet and muddy underfoot but nevertheless there were long stretches of downhill and flat making the course a fast one. With the exception of Mel Greaves, who ran an event personal best, all BATs taking part were running the event for the first time. First BAT home and first in her age group was Sam Lake, first male Bat home was Alen Guy. Second in their age groups were Sally Dunn and Derek Hicks and all BATs finished in the hour.  Team BAT finishing times: Sam Lake 42.39, Alen Guy 44.25, Sally Dunn 45.13, Rob Gualtieri 45.40, Julie Page 45.52, Derek Hicks 46.17, Phil King 46.58, Toby Rankin 48.22, Dotty King 52.00, Claire Whitaker 53.29, Jo Vella 59.50, Mel Greaves 1.00.01 and Ali Greaves 01.00.07. Earlier in the month and making her club debut was Jacqui Stokes who was one of the 12,000 runners who took part in the Copenhagen Marathon. It is estimated that approximately 60% of all participants of the marathon reside outside the city of Copenhagen, while about 20% are from abroad. A record total of 65 countries were represented, which is more than ever before, and the club is proud to have one of its members proudly wearing a vest in this event. The Nykredit Copenhagen Marathon course goes through almost all parts of Inner Copenhagen. Runners can look forward to a run from Islands Brygge, into the city centre through the three main areas of the city. Jacqui ran a great race and finished in a time of 4.06.35.
