Devon seconds B West
Torquay seconds v Lewdown seconds
LEWDOWN Seconds failed at leaders Torquay as they were comprehensively beaten by them as the sun shone by the seaside.
Torquay now have a decisive lead at the top of the division at the half way stage of the season.
Winning an important toss Torquay asked Lewdown to bat on hard wicket on which Lewdown failed to adapt to the extra bounce the Torquay bowlers extracted. Only Brown (19) and Yeo (16) made scores of note as Lewdown fell to 74 all out. Nadar took 3 for 13 and Baker 3-17.
Torquay lost an early wicket to the pace of Edmonds with the score on eight. Western then edged a sharp chance to slip with the score on 19 which, if it had been taken, could have made the run chase interesting. However, the chance went down and Torquay carefully accumulated runs to tie the scores on 74.
The Lewdown team's commitment in a progressively losing cause was excellent and summed up when Brown clattered into the picket fence saving a four and had to be helped from the field.
Before securing the victory Torquay lost two further wickets when Osborn was caught by the substitute fielder and Creasey then took the third wicket before Singh hit the winning four to make the score 78-3. Western finishing unbeaten on 27.
