NINE junior athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club were selected to represent Devon at the South West regional Sportshall finals.
Sportshall Athletics is an indoor form of track and field for junior athletes. Four Tavistock AC juniors competed at U13 level and five at U11.
The finals were held last month at Torbay Leisure Centre where the Devon teams competed against teams from other counties across the South West.
William Russell, Edward Mills and Ben Pitts from Tavistock competed for the Devon Darts U11 boys' team, competing well in a combination of running, throwing and jumping events. The boys contributed to the Devon points total which won their age-group competition. Anya Taylor and Annelie M'hand were Tavistock AC's representatives in the Devon Demons U11 girls' team and their excellent efforts saw their team come in second overall.
The Devon U13 boys came second to a strong Avon County team. Soteris Purdikeas and Jake Walker from Tavistock AC both contributed valuable points to the Devon Team total.
The Devon U13 girls did one better taking first place, which means they go on to compete in the National Finals.
Tavistock athlete Jenny Milburn came first in the six lap race and third in the triple jump; her club team-mate Sarah Bull came first in the vertical jump and second in the four lap race. The two girls also stormed to victory in their relay race.
It was a great achievement for all of these local juniors to be selected to represent Devon.
