CONSERVATIVE A started the year in the Tavistock Snooker League with a more than useful 4–1 win over Golf B, increasing their lead at the top of the table over West Devon A.
Con A’s Babb took the first frame although he knew he had been in a battle as Appleton took him all the way. Carruthers (24) soon made it two for Con A as he ensured there would be no more ‘giant killing’ activity from Gawman on the night.
Wiles, with a healthy 43 break, secured the match for Conservative A, although a decent score from Congo certainly pushed him all the way. Davey pulled one back for Golf B with his first win of the season in only his second ‘run out’, before the secure hands of Evans made it four for Con A with a trademark performance of authority.West Devon A came from 2–1 down to secure a 3–2 win over West Devon D.
As is customary, Brookes romped away in his opening frame with two, 20-plus breaks as he restricted his opponent to single figures. WD A team responded well taking the next two frames as Murton inflicted a rare defeat on Morris, backed up by Shrimpton (junior) edging out Lawrence in a close one. Heathman then drew the A team level, with Taylor then keeping his nerve to take the spoils for the A team as he took a tight deciding frame from Williams.
RESULTS: January 4 – Golf B 1 Conservative A 4; West Devon A 3 West Devon D 2.
Breaks: Chris Wiles 43, Duane Carruthers 24, Doug Brookes 23 and 23.
