A SATURDAY morning session of squash for youngsters attracted the attention of the Central Devon MP as he visited Okehampton Squash and Racketball Club.
Mel Stride MP came to see the club's refurbished facilities funded by Sport England. He timed his visit to watch the regular Saturday morning youth coaching taking place.
Sport England's Inspired Facilities fund has provided £50,000 of funding while the club has provided £5,000. The works have seen the club's courts clad with modern insulation, and the modernisation of heating and hot water systems.
A requirement for the Sport England grant is that the club has to increase the amount of games played on the courts over the next three years.
Youth and adult coaching is a part of this process, as well as offering greatly reduced membership fees to encourage new members to join.
Both racketball and squash coaching is available to non-members as well as members, with racketball sessions on Tuesday evenings from 6.20pm to 9pm.
