SIX swimmers from Mount Kelly enjoyed a successful week at the 2015 British Championships held at the London Aquatic Centre this month.
Benjamin Staig made his first major final in the Junior 100m butterfly posting a great personal best of 58.36 seconds to claim seventh. Ben also posted solid swims in his two backstroke events, setting a new PB in the 200m backstroke. Also in action in the 200m backstroke was Finn Linton who set a life-time best of 2.10.14 to qualify for the final in eighth. This was the first national competition Finn had qualified for, so it was a great achievement to even make a final. Finn then went on to set an additional PB in the 100m backstroke.
Alex Seymour was also in action in the 200m backstroke, just missing out on the final in a time of 2.10.47. He also just missed the final in the 200m butterfly, demonstrating his potential for the future.
Mount Kelly's youngest competitor Lauren Hession set a new lifetime best of 28.57 in the 50m freestyle and swimming a season's best in the 100m freestyle.
In the sprint events was Michael Alcorn who posted a top five all time swim in the 50m freestyle, following his success at the Scottish Nationals the previous week.
Julian Chan Quee Lin swam in both the 200m and 400m freestyle and his times will secure qualification to the British Summer Nationals where he will look to make a real impact on the national stage. Mount Kelly now has 42 swimmers competing in the ASA SWR Youth Championships this weekend where all the swimmers will hope to post additional times on the British rankings to qualify them to the 2015 Summer Championships.
n MOUNT Kelly Swimming claimed both championship titles at the Devon County Distance Championships as well as the girls Junior Championship title.
In the 800m freestyle, Megan Bowen took the championship title in a time of 9 minutes 06.06 seconds and Lauren Hession won the Junior Championship title, posting a new personal best of 9.45.51.
Georgia Martin added a gold in the 15 years in a new season's best with Honor Kingsley Smith in third. Kaylee Dekker claimed silver in the 13 years age group.
Other great personal best swims came from Georgina Dennis, Victoria Moore, Phoebe Lloyd-Evans and Leah Picillo.
In the boys' 1,500 Freestyle Reece Worth took the championship title in a time of 16.33.13 with Harry Hathaway in third. Jamie Brew and Jacob Newcombe both took bronze in their age groups and Tom Brew (17.55.53) and Jacob Gibbons (18.22.80) posted strong times in the 15 years age group.
