Devon and Exeter division two

Clyst Valley Reserves 1

Chagford 1

CHAGFORD won their first point of the season but can count themselves unfortunate not to have picked up all three. With a little more confidence in front of goal, the game may have been won before half-time.

Robbie Miller did have the ball in the home net as early as the seventh minute only to see the goal disallowed.

For the next few minutes, the play remained with the visitors but Mortimore and Alex Gavillet could not make the most of chances presented to them by a hesitant defence.

However Chagford scored in the tenth minute as a home defender deflected Stone's well flighted free-kick into his own net.

The lead was to last but five minutes as the hosts were awarded a penalty as Mitchell was brought down. Pryse stepped up, slammed the ball past Ralph and the tide appeared to turn.

For a time Valley took control but without exerting too much pressure, although Ralph had to get down smartly for a couple of saves.

The second half was more evenly contested with both sides carving out chances without giving too much ground. Both 'keepers were well protected by their defences with Chagford's well marshalled by Wes Gavillet and Thorn.

Skipper and man of the match Will Cork and Euan Stone regained control of the midfield with the introduction of Pidgeon adding to their forward play and working hard to create a couple of efforts on goal. Josh Stanbury took over from Alex Gavillet mid-way through the half and he had the best of Chagford's chances, his hooked shot hitting the Clyst crossbar and a post before it was cleared to safety.

With time running out, Saunders turned aside Miller's goal bound header with a tremendous save to keep a point for his team.

n Chagford play Exeter Civil Service on Saturday, 3pm kick-off.

Chagford Reserves 2

Dunkeswell Rovers 3

CHAGFORD Reserves threw away three valuable points, their two goal lead being turned over in a few crazy minutes.

All the goals came in the second half, Dan Elphick and Tom Stanbury again netting for the Moormen before everything went to pot.

An own goal, a penalty and an opposition player being set up by the hosts all contributed to gifting Rovers the result.
