Whitchurch v Babbacombe Second XI

AFTER a delayed start, Whitchurch won the toss and invited their visitors to bat first.

Debutant Aiden Hall (1-17) made an early breakthrough.

That brought Thompson to the crease. He batted assuredly and added 70 for the second wicket with Porter.

Vernon bowled a tidy spell going for just 17 off his allocated eight overs.

When Thompson departed for 70, Ibbotson took up the mantel blitzing 40 not out as the visitors pushed toward 200, Webber secured three wickets.

Babbacombe closed their innings on 235 for seven off their reduced allocation of 40 overs.

Whitchurch's reply never really got going. Dettman took two early wickets, before Chappell reminded Whitchurch what they had been missing with a vintage 41.

Only Josh Vernon with 39 managed to get to double figures for the home side. Pym taking four for 27 and Porter two for 24, dismissing Whitchurch for 128.
