LEW Trenchard Primary School sent 18 children up to Bude in North Cornwall to take part in the annual St Petroc's Cross Country race which took place on the cliffs above Crooklets Beach.

Many schools take part from all over Devon and Cornwall and it is the toughest event of the year for primary children. This was made more daunting by the cold, northerly wind and low temperatures. However, the sun was shining and the sea was spectacular.

All of the children tried their best in the difficult conditions but pride of place must go to Ben Hunt who came third in the under 9s race which helped the team to collect a team trophy for second place.

The other team runners were Finlay Loud, Sam Gilkinson, Jenson Bull, Sam Burke, and Ryan Kingdon.

In the older age group, Josh Craddock finished sixth in the U11s boys race which is a superb achievement for a year 5 boy.
