Witheridge 1

Tavistock 3

TAVISTOCK started brightly and opened the scoring on seven minutes. Joe Carey and Dean Southcott combined to give former Mansfield Town striker Ian Holmes the ball 25 yards from goal and he showed his class by turning the Wirheridge defender inside out before firing home from the edge of the box.

The Lambs had several chances to increase their lead but some superb goalkeeping and last ditch defending kept Witheridge in the game. Just before half time Witheridge were back on level terms as the Lambs makeshift defence, who had been well led by captain Ben Davies, failed to clear a rare home attack and the ball fell to Richard Blake who curled the ball around Matt Ansell in the Tavistock goal for the equaliser.

Tavistock came out for the second half and deservedly got themselves back in front after 63 minutes when home defender Chris Ibbesson was penalised for a hand-ball and Tavistock's man of the match Ian Holmes made no mistake blasting the penalty kick in to the top corner of the net.

The Lambs pressed for another goal but spurned some great chances to kill the game off and with 15 minutes to go nearly paid the price as Taunton Town striker Carl Cliff-Brown hit a thunderous drive from 20 yards but Matt Ansell pulled off a fine save to turn the ball around the post.

The introduction of Harry Southcott sealed the points for the Lambs as he made an instant impact when Dave Hallett slipped the ball between the Witheridge defence and the youngster brushed off the challenges of two home defenders and drilled the ball low into the corner of the net to make it 3-1 to the Lambs.

This was a tremendous all round team performance from the Lambs and a notable victory against a strong Witheridge side.
