Okehampton ladies firsts 4

Falmouth ladies 8

THIS was a fast paced hockey match from the start and, as with the away match, proved to be a high scoring game.

Okehampton took an early lead thanks to a goal from Jo Moppett. Falmouth were quick to reply with an equaliser which came as a result of a counter attack.

Despite the best efforts of the home defenders, Nicky Pedrick, Abi Colton and Laura Parsons, Falmouth got into the D again shortly after and used clinical passing to get around keeper, Alice Wiseman.

Oke continued to build attacks and kept Falmouth under pressure at times during the first half. However, the away defenders cleared the ball accurately and built strong attacks which their forwards capitalised on to score four more goals. At half time the score was 5-1 to Falmouth.

Okehampton began the second half positively. Midfielders Jess Medland and Sophie Whiteley worked well together in the centre of the pitch and linked up with Hannah Whiteley, who adopted strong attacking positions on the wing.

Emily Rowlands played with confidence, made runs down the wing and attacked the D. Molly Marvin was excellent in support play in a range of different positions on the pitch and Anna Speak linked passes with forwards from left midfield.

A series of passes through midfield allowed Kim Davey to score with a shot from the top of the D and shortly afterwards Jo Moppet’s frequent attacks yielded her a second goal.

Falmouth made use of several short corners to pile on the pressure and scored another goal. After some excellent passing between Oke players, Lesley Bingham scored a reverse stick goal. With an improved second half for Okehampton, the final score was 8-4 to Falmouth, who second in the league.
