KELLY College took 36 swimmers to compete at the first weekend of the Devon County Amateur Swimming Association's Championships held at Life Centre, Plymouth.
Between them they had 181 swims, of which 124 were personal best times. Included were two national qualifying times and two championship and three junior championship wins; 45 finalists, nine gold medals, 10 silver and 13 bronze and three Devon records.
Stephanie Reynolds (18) won the women's 200m backstroke championship in a time of 2 minutes 14.87 seconds with team mate Emily Cutler (15) taking the silver in the open competition and winning the junior championship for 15 years and under in a time of 2.16.79, which was also a new Devon record for her age group.
Thomas McLagan (17) took gold in the men's 200m individual medley championship in a time of 2.07.12 with Kelly team mates Harry Hathaway (second), Louis Gautier (third), Ben Staig (fourth) and Finn Linton (eight). With his fourth place in the Open Championship, Ben won the junior championship as the top placed 15 years and under swimmer in a new Kelly age group record.
Other championship finalists were — men's 100m freestyle: Louis Gautier (fourth), David Colley (eighth); women's 100m freestyle; Stephanie Reynolds (fourth), Emily Cutler (seventh); men's 200m breaststroke: Thomas McLagan (second), Harry Hathaway(third), Laker Wong (fourth), Will Luckham-Down (seventh), Ben Staig (eighth): women's 400m freestyle: Emily Cutler (fourth); men's 200m butterfly: Thomas McLagan (third) and Harry Hathaway (fourth); men's 50m backstroke: Louis Gautier (third), Ben Staig (fifth) and Harry Hathaway (eighth): women's 50m backstroke: Emily Cutler (second), Stephanie Reynolds (third) and Cara Layden (seventh).
Taku Chaza (13) claimed two national qualifying times and two Kelly age group records with second in the boys 100m freestyle and 200m individual medley.
Cara Layden (14), broke the Devon and the Kelly record in the 200m backstroke. Cara also took the 14 year old Kelly age group record in the 50m backstroke. Ben Staig (14), was junior champion in the 50m backstroke where he broke the Devon record with a time of 28.09. Louis Gautier (16) took the 50m backstroke Kelly record as did Emily Cutler (14).
