OKEHAMPTON Otters swimmer Dominic Wooldridge has added to his ever-growing swimming portfolio by winning his first international title.

Dominic, 20, who captains Exeter City Swimming Club, claimed a total of four gold’s at the  International Easter Meet in Sliema, Malta.

Teaming up with three of his team mates, Dominic took gold on the first night of competition in the 4x100m medley relay.  Diving in eight metres behind on his preferred butterfly leg, Wooldridge gave chase to the Maltese National relay team, overhauling the Olympian in the final 25m to hand over in first position. This set a precedent for the rest of the meet.

Days two and three saw Dominic take double gold in the 100m and 200m butterfly, as well as the 400m freestyle.

Talking about the 100m, he said: ‘I knew I had to keep my cool down the first half, and trust in myself.  Setting a season’s best at this time of year is a positive too!’ Dominic dominated the longer distance events, asserting his stamina and strength in the final half of races, his trademark characteristic. Next up for Dominic are the Rio 2016 Olympic trials, at Tollcross Sports Centre, Glasgow from April 12-17.
