A HOLE in one is a rare event in golf with some people playing all of their life and never achieving the feat.

This was not the case however for 13 year-old Tavistock Golf Club junior George Bumford. Despite having only been playing golf for just five months George recorded a hole in one when he saw his tee shot on the seventh find the hole.

George said: I hit a seven iron. It was a good strike, the ball bounced once, hit the flag and went in. I couldn't believe it!'

George is one of a number of promising juniors coming through the ranks at Tavistock. In addition to making their mark in a number of the main club competitions, several have received wider recognition with Jamie Ninnis, Callam Watkin and Tom White having recently been selected to join the Devon Junior Golf Academy and junior captain, Will Stenhouse, representing the main Devon junior team. The junior section at Tavistock currently has members from as young as five through to eighteen. The children are coached by the club's assistant PGA professional Simon Invest and the club organises junior competitions every Sunday.
