YELVERTON motor sports driver John Simpson is heading for his next challenge – the Werrington Hillclimb Introduction near Launceston on the MayBank Holiday weekend.

John, 66, is racing a car after replacing his Astra with a Radical SR4 car.

He the keen motor enthusiast has won the Ford rally championship, driven for Subaru and Ford, and been an instructor at numerous rally schools in Wales and London as well as at the famous Silverstone circuit.

Now he is looking forward to putting his driving skills to the test at the Werrington event which is organised by Plymouth Motor Club. This event will see a 100 competitors on each day driving up the 1,250 yard hill as fast as they can.

John told Times Sport: ‘The Radical SR4 race car is a very rapid car indeed, with a 0 to 60 time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 150mph. I have been testing with that at Llandow race circuit and will be competing in it at St Goueno in France next month. 

‘Prior to that I will be driving a MK2 Escort rally car at the Werrington Park speed hillclimb event on May 5 and 6. Local driver Andrew James has kindly offered to share his car with me for this event.’
