Kelly College's Paralympian Hannah Russell, aged 16, took a huge 12.36 seconds off her personal best in the S12 200m freestyle to record a new world Record of 2 minutes 13.42 seconds.

The world record was achieved last weekend when the Kelly College swim team travelled to Cardiff to compete in the Open Meet held by Exeter City Swimming Club at Cardiff International Pool.

This achievement comes as Hannah looks to continue her outstanding form from last year, which saw her win three medals at the Paralympic Games in London. The college sent 36 swimmers to the are there were some great swims from swimmers ranging in age from 11 to 18 which resulted in a world record, five national qualifying times, nine Kelly College age group records, 14 golds and 99 personal best times.

Robin Brew, director of swimming at Kelly College, was delighted with Hannah's achievement one he which would be great early season form in preparation for the World Championships later this year in Canada.

He was also delighted with the form of all the college swimmers who took part at Cardiff.

National Qualifying Times were achieved by Tom Brew (100m fly), Cara Layden (200m back) and Milly Furneaux (50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke). Special congratulations to Tom as this was his first NQT.

New Kelly College age group records were recorded by: Georgia Martin (12) in the 400m IM (5:42.60), Aimee Davies (13) in the 50m backstroke (33.82), Cara Layden (13) in the 200m backstroke (2.28.91), Milly Furneaux (16) in the 50m breaststroke (33.95) and the 100m breaststroke (1:14.12), Nathan Linden (12) in the 200m fly (2:31.33), Toby Stanyer (14) in the 50m backstroke (30.78), Laker Wong (16) in the 50m breaststroke (31.59) and Ollie Willis (17) in the 50m backstroke (28.54).
