FOLLOWING his Great Britain selection for the World Championships in double mini trampoline (DMT), Okehampton Flyers gymnast Mason Parker-Groves has also been selected to represent Great Britain in a second gymnastics discipline, trampolining.

The Trampoline and DMT World Championships, taking place in Nanjing, China, this year, is the highest profile event a junior gymnast can qualify for. Achieving Great Britain team places for the World Championships in two different gymnastics disciplines is a rare achievement.

To qualify for the Great Britain team at the World Championships, national level gymnasts have to achieve difficult worlds qualification scores in each discipline.

Mason first entered national trampoline at 10 years old and has gradually worked his way to the top of his age group, achieving his first silver podium places in the English series in March, and his first UK national bronze trampoline medal in April.

Progressing in his execution, HD, time of flight and difficulty in club training, he achieved seven double somersaults in his voluntary routine this year, hitting the difficult world score for trampolining at the English Championships in July, upgrading to a harder vol to finish on a full full, and hitting the world score again at the national finals in October.

Mason has also continued to progress in his execution and difficulty through the season. He hit the difficult world score for DMT in July, achieving 0.8 above it, progressing at club training in his execution and upgrading his pass difficulty to achieving 1.6 above it at the national finals in October.

The youngster achieved his first-ever England selection for trampolining in August, and his first-ever Great Britain selection for trampolining in October. He had previously represented England in DMT, but this is also his first-ever Great Britain selection for DMT.

Mason is currently ranked number one in the GB 13-14 men's team for DMT, and number three in the GB 13-14 men's team for trampolining.

Vicki Pritchard, Mason’s coach, said: "Mason's achievement is the result of years of hard work and dedication. To be selected to represent Great Britain in both of the gymnastics disciplines he trains in is an incredible achievement and a testament to the level of commitment he has shown in his training over the last few years. "

All Great Britain team places are self-funded, with competition expenses, kit and travel for the World Championships and all other international competitions costing the families of the gymnasts several thousand pounds. Okehampton Flyers are running a GoFundMe campaign to help get Mason to China to represent Great Britain on the world stage.

Mason, his family, and Okehampton Flyers, are all incredibly grateful to everyone who has already made a donation, with special mention to the Inner Wheel of Okehampton for their donation of £300 and Amethyst Taxis for their donation of £100.
