THERE was a packed club house at Tavistock Golf Club when members gathered to say goodbye to the club’s professional Glenn Richards, who is leaving this month.
On behalf of members president Dennis Greening thanked Glenn for all that he done and achieved for the club during his eight years. Club captain Barry Shipton endorsed the president’s remarks and wished Glenn every success for the future.
Glenn told members that he was sad to be leaving but it was time to move on. He said that he had greatly enjoyed his time at the club and hoped that, during his eight years, he had contributed to the successes that the club had achieved including the Parker trophy, twice winning the Palarait trophy, the Still Cup and Western Morning News trophies won by the ladies. He thanked everyone for their support and wished every success to Katie Rule who will be the new club professional.
As usual the weather has played a part in the golfing fixtures but 20 ladies played in the monthly medal and some good scores were made.
In division one Fiona Lovell scored an excellent nett 73, second Donna Cann nett 75 and in third place Dawn Dennis with a nett 76. First in division two was Margaret Smith nett 75, second Janet Kiely nett 79 and third Sybil Cole net t81.
The lady veterans in their first club trophy of the season, the Betty Truscott Salver, had very strong winds to contend with over the 14 hole competition. The winner with a nett 60 was Shirley Trevena with the runner up Norma Thewlis with a nett 61 on count back from Jackie Sealy.
Forty-six pairs competed in the men’s four ball better ball open Stableford. Scoring was close but Tavistock’s Richard Burrows and Richard Smith took first place with 45 points. Tavistock also took second place with Graham Ruth and David Turnbull scoring 44pts on count back from Boringdon’s Darren Corbett and Warren Massey. In fourth place with 43 pts Tavistock’s George Gawman and Rich Potts.
In the men’s monthly Stableford first in division one was Jon Behennah 41pts, second Ian Jasinsky 39pts, third with 38 pts Gary West on count back from Peter Floyd. Mike King with 42pts was first in division two, second Chris Morley on 37pts, third David Young 36 on count back from Gareth George. First in division three was Brian Southcott with 39pts, second Danvers Hough 38 pts and in third place Dennis Greening 35 pts.
