AN ‘on fire’ performance from Golf A in the Tavistock Snooker League took Conservative A’s unbeaten record in style— inflicting the biggest defeat Con A have suffered in years.
A jaded looking Con A side left the door open and Golf A walked right in and took the spoils with both hands. James Ruth with a 27 break totally eclipsed Tom Evans to give Golf a superb springboard to build from. Despite a spirited effort from Lacey it was Golf A’s Bridgewater that put his team two up with a well worked win. Golf A’s skipper Pope then played a superb captains innings to overshadow Con A’s Bell and with it the victory for his team.
Carruthers then pulled one back for the Con A in a close pink ball frame against Whitley, this despite a decent 28 break from the latter.
Golf A’s Turnbull made sure of the match with a dominant display against Con A’s danger man Wiles to stretch their lead to 4-1.
West Devon C clinched a good 4-1 win over Conservative C. WD C’s Wonnacott with a black ball win over Bassett, along with Elliott’s potting spree against Jago put them two up. The winning frame came from Grigg who edged out Davies before the Con C’s pulled one back with a sound performance from Cleave. The fourth point came courtesy of a good showing from Williams, who got the better of Bellamy.
Conservative B nearly pulled off the shock win of the night against high flyers West Devon A in a narrow 2-3 defeat. Lillicrap was totally out of his depth against the sure hand of WD A’s Morris, but it was all level next frame with Con B’s Neale taking out Lawrence, this despite Lawrence enjoying a lot of the run of ball. The pivotal frame was a hard fought games between Con B’s Mart McKechnie and WD A’s Heathman, the frame only being decided in the cruellest of manners with Heathman fluking the black ball to steal the frame. Not deflated by this, Conservative B’s bounced right back to level the match with Moloney taking a comfortable frame off Taylor. Arguably Con B’s best showing of the night came from Ewings who despite a master class display of tactical thoughtful snooker, lost out on the black ball to one of the league’s top players, WD A’s Kevin Rich.
