IF there were any lingering doubts that Golf A had become one of the main players in the Tavistock Snooker League, their 3-2 win over second in the table West Devon A should finally have dispelled them.

It seemed business as usual in the first frame for West Devon A with Morris taking care of Wylie with little discomfort.

Even the second frame provided no sign of what was to come with West Devon’s K Rich (20) comfortably crossing the line, this despite a good 23 break from his opponent Ruth.

The turning point for Golf A came curtesy of a timely win for Turnbull in a high standard game over Brookes, the latter also playing his part in this well fought frame.

Captain to the fore it was, with Pope levelling the game for Golf A as he kept his head and took full advantage of some tentative snooker from Taylor.

The decider could have gone either way with initially West Devon A’s Heathman doing the running with some solid potting, only to be pegged back by some equally confident visits by Whitley. Come the final stages it was Whitley taking more of the colours required than Heathman to secure a memorable victory for Golf A.

If Conservative B thought they were going to get some assistance from West Devon D in addressing their slide down the table, they had another think coming.

Ewings made a ‘good fist of it’ but it was West Devon D’s Murton that sneaked it in a low scoring frame to put his side one up.

The next frame was a pleasure to watch, with Con B’s Anderson (20) and West Devon D’s Shrimpton (junior) trading pot for pot in a high velocity open frame. It could have been anyone’s frame but again it was Shrimpton that pipped Anderson to the post.

McKechnie pulled his game together enough to pull one back for the Con’s as he overcame West Devon D’s Ward, not a dream start for their new boy.

The winning frame for West Devon D came from the steady hand of Decieco as kept his cool to edge past Dolan in the closest of frames.

Late in the evening Evans reduced the arrears for the Con B’s with a hard fought win over West Devon D’s skipper Hooper, with the lights slowly going down on another under par showing from the Conservative B.
