ANYONE looking to get fit or already in training, look no further — the Okehampton Running Club has a summer series of races for runners. The club has four fell races over the summer season. The first is the Cosdon Hill Race on Sunday, July 13. The course is 3.2 miles and involves a 1,000 feet ascent over rough, unmarked high moorland terrain. The run starts at Belstone Village Hall car park at 2.30pm, in conjunction with Belstone Fair. A beautiful but tough fell run faces those taking on the Great West Fell Race on Saturday, August 2. The course is five miles long and involves a 1,360 feet ascent. Self-navigation around the checkpoints is required. The race starts at 2pm at Meldon Reservoir Car Park. For those willing to test themselves over a longer distance, the 10.4 mile Oke Croak course ascends the East Okement valley before entering the rugged moorland of north Dartmoor. The run involves a 2,000 feet ascent over unmarked terrain and takes place on Saturday, August 30. The race sets off from Simmons Park at 11am. The series concludes with the Sourton Tors Race on Wednesday, September 3. A 2.6 mile run involves a 900 feet ascent over high moorland to Sourton Tor. The race starts at Bearslake Inn car park at 7.15pm. All races held are run under the rules of the Fell Runners Association.
