IN the Tavistock Snooker League the Conservative Z team struggled to find any meaningful form against Conservative A. First to the table was Jankowski of the Z team against Evans. Jankowski got off to a flying start oozing confidence but soon fell into Evans’s trap of quiet and deliberate points building with every visit to the table and soon found himself adrift by a substantial margin — first blood to the Con A.
Mayors for Con Z got off to a good start with some very able potting, but Lacey kept up and thanks to a break of 23 eventually overhauled Mayors to give Con A their second win.
Con Z team’s McKechnie looked confident initially against Babb, lost direction in the second half of the game and eventually collapsed to Babb’s onslaught. Fitzsimmons for the Z team picked the wrong night to get paired with Carruthers who was in extremely fine fettle and racked up the best break of the season so far with 40, leaving Fitzsimmons on the sidelines looking on in admiration.
With Con Z team staring at a potential whitewash Symonds approached the table with trepidation against Bell.
Symonds, however, kept his nerve and played a controlled, if not necessarily stunning game, to see off Bell and gain his team a vital point.
Golf A who have enjoyed run away wins in their last few games were made to fight all the way to the last frame by another fine effort from West Devon B.
It all looked so rosy for Golf after taking the first two frames, courtesy of Wylie over Hart, and Ruth over Gilchrist, with Ruth slotting in a nice 27 break in his high scoring frame.
The comeback for West Devon came from John Rich, inflicting only the second defeat of the season on Whitley.
A trade mark solid performance form Horrell pulled West Devon level as he dominated his frame against an off colour Pope.
In the deciding frame Roger Rich put up a solid showing against Golf’s Turnbull but as the frame progressed the latter’s potting fire power began to make the difference as he put ‘blue water’ between himself and his opponent.
