CALLINGTON TOWN FC LADIES 5

KEYNSHAM TOWN LADIES 0

CALLINGTON Ladies sealed a decisive home win against visitors Keynsham Town Ladies.

The game kicked off with the home side on the front foot and after just one minute Grace O’Leary rattled the Keynsham cross-bar and the away defenders were alert to clear any danger of rebounds.

From then on it was a fairly even contest, although the home side shaded the possession in attacking territory. Town’s central back three of Sam Burnham, Amy Hemingway and Sam Veal dealt with any threat from the Keynsham forwards.

On 40 minutes, Callington opened the scoring. A Veal corner curled in towards the back post and over the keeper before going over the goal-line, despite the desperate efforts of Keynsham’s defenders inside the goal. Town went into the break with a narrow lead having just edged the first half.

The second half however was all one-way traffic from kick-off as Callington put their foot on the gas. On 50 minutes Chloe Williams saw her shot towards the top corner well saved by the keeper then on the hour Daisy Self watched her strike go just over the cross-bar.

On 65 minutes, the goal that did look to have been coming, actually arrived. Self played in Gabi Alphous and the deadly forward made no mistake with her 20 yard strike into the top corner of the net. Ten minutes later Alphous, set up by Alphous, put her side well in the driving seat with an unstoppable shot over the keeper from outside the box.

Ten minutes from full-time Callington sealed the win with two further goals. The first of which was an assist from Rhi Bailey to set away Dani Harper one-on-one with the keeper; she kept her composure and rolled the ball under the keeper from eight yards. Sam Kotlinska had the ball in the net for the fifth and final time with her cross/shot was heading into the goal before taking a touch of a defender.

Callington’s player of the match was awarded to Emily Sweet.

After the match Town manager Adam McPherson said: ‘I could not have asked for a better reaction following a slightly below-par performance the previous week at Bideford.’
