Tavistock AFC 7

Bodmin Town 1

TAVISTOCK were without Glynn Hobbs not available, so Liam Prynn led the front line.

The game got off to a fast start with both teams playing some fine football. It was the Lambs who took the lead in the fifth minute when a great passing move saw the ball find Josh Robins on the left flank; he glided past two defenders, before providing the perfect cross for Prynn to fire home from five yards.

Three minutes later another fine move saw a Josh Grant effort scrambled away for a corner kick. The Lambs’ precise passing was causing the Bodmin defence all sorts of problems; this resulted in the home team doubling their lead in the 18th minute, when the lively Prynn was brought down in the penalty area. The referee had no hesitation in pointing to the penalty spot. Grant made no mistake as he rifled the ball home for 2-0.

The home team continued to have the better of the exchanges and it was only a last ditch clearance by Kelly that denied Prynn from scoring.

Then completely against the run of play Bodmin reduced the arrears, when Brokenshire unleashed an unstoppable shot, low into the corner of the net, from 23 yards.

Tavistock then turned on the style and both Tallin Burns and Grant went close before regaining their two goal advantage. In the 38th minute Prynn became provider when he played the perfect through ball for Burns to fire home.

In the Bodmin goal, Harvey then made two fine saves to deny both Tyler Elliot and Grant from scoring.

The Lambs had the ball in the net again in the opening minutes of the second half, but Grant was adjudged to be offside.

The home team then had a set back when star defender Dan Evans was injured, so Dave Hallett moved to centre back and Reece Shanley came on to take his place in midfield.

The home team increased their lead in the 58th minute when another expansive move involving four players saw the ball find Grant — his powerful cross into the six yard box resulted in a defender trying to deny the ball reaching the on rushing Jack Crago, could only turn the ball into his own net.

Four minutes later it was five, when a great defence splitting pass from Elliot put Prynn in on goal; he calmly fired home with aplomb. Bodmin’s Steer then shot just wide of the target.

In the 70th minute the home team made it six, when another fine move saw Grant provide the perfect pass for Prynn to slot the ball home to complete his hat-trick.

Prynn then provided a perfect pass for Burns, who calmly slotted the ball home to make it seven.

Bodmin never gave up, forcing Tavistock goalkeeper Oak to make two very good saves to deny them from reducing the deficit, but the Lambs saw the game out to record a fantastic victory.

This was a magnificent all round team performance, producing a stunning attacking display, which was the biggest defeat inflicted on Bodmin in the history of the South West Peninsula League history.

Man of the match must go to Liam Prynn, who scored a hat trick and led the attack with great pace and movement.

However the team must keep their feet on the ground, because nothing is won at this stage of the season — it’s all about maintaining this level performance consistently throughout the season, that will be the deciding factor.

lThis Saturday the first team are away to local rivals Launceston, kick-off 3pm while the reserves are home to St Austell, kick-off 2.30pm.

Newquay 1

Tavistock AFC 4

BOTH teams came into the game off the back of good away wins in the FA Vase.

Manager Stuart Henderson tweeked the starting line with Dan Evans returning to the heart of the defence to allow Dave Hallett to return to midfield. Tallon Burns also started in midfield with Jack Crago, Reece Shanley and Tyler Elliott on the bench.

There was a strong wind coming in off the Atlantic making conditions for both sides difficult, but the Lambs immediately settled and within two minutes they took the lead.

Mason Hughes’s low cross into the area was met by Josh Grant, whose shot was stopped but Liam Prynn was on hand to slot home.

The visitors continued to create chances throughout the first half with Glynn Hobbs, Grant and Prynn all going close.

Newquay were reduced to breakaway chances but too many balls going straight to Lambs’ custodian Josh Oak.

Their best chance of the first half came when Bray-Evans went on a jinking run but shot over the bar.

Newquay came out for the second half firing with Oak having to tip over a fierce shot from Pezez and within five minutes they were back on level terms.

Man of the match Warren Daw was adjudged to have fouled Pezez in the area and from the resultant penalty kick, Squires made no mistake.

The home side’s joy was over within two minutes as the Lambs went ahead for the second time.

Daw’s long ball out of defence caused confusion between keeper Dower and his central defenders and the ball fell kindly for Grant to slot into an empty net.

On 65 minutes the Lambs increased their lead.

A passing move between Prynn, Grant and Hobbs saw the latter slide the ball goalwards; it looked like that it was going in but Prynn got a final touch to score.

The Lambs continued to press for the remainder of the game with sub Jack Crago giving the Newquay defence further problems.

The game was completed on 80 minutes when from a Burns corner Crago rose unchallenged at the far post to head home.
