AFTER they won their first game of the new SW Peninsula League season, Okehampton Argyle have since suffered six league defeats on the spin.

They enjoyed a 4-0 victory at Simmons Park against Exeter Uni in early August only for the weeks since then to be increasingly difficult.

The latest loss came away at Teignmouth AFC, by three goals to one, on Saturday, September 19.

Rio Turl notched for Argyle at Coombe Valley whilst Leon Aggett, Harry Breslan and young Tyler Sibal were on target for Teignmouth.

It isn’t all doom and gloom for Okehampton though as they did advance beyond Millbrook AFC in the Walter C Parson League Cup earlier this month, winning 2-0 on home turf.

Elsewhere in the Peninsula League this weekend, Teignmouth’s South Devon rivals Newton Abbot Spurs suffered a 2-0 defeat at The Rec, at the hands of Cullompton Rangers.

Cully have collected the maximum of 21 points available from their seven league outings to date and are second only to Elburton Villa, who are ahead only by goal difference and have played a game more at the time of writing.

Rangers were good for their win in Newton Abbot, weathering an early storm put forward by the hosts before Callum Chivers put them ahead in the first half.

A howler from Spurs goalkeeper Jimmy Weeks, who otherwise had a standout performance on the day, saw him throw the ball at Chivers after the break with the Cullompton number two gladly accepting the gift, doubling his personal tally and that of the team.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Elburton won at home against Ilminster Town, Ilfracombe Town beat Bishops Lydeard, Exeter Uni shocked Bridport FC, Middlezoy Rovers edged out Stoke Gabriel TP by a single goal and on the Friday evening, Torridgeside AFC overcame Crediton United 4-0.

Next up for Argyle is a trip to Ivybridge Town tomorrow night in the St Luke’s Challenge Cup before they return to league action and head to Bridport on Saturday (Sept 26).
