BACK in July, Tavistock Athletic Club held another highly successful Tavistock Town Relays event in the Meadows, where over 400 runners took part.

The event was held as part of the Tavistock Carnival and, as is tradition, TAC donated a portion of the event's profits to the Lions Club of Tavistock - money that will be put towards presents that Santa and his elves take to local primary schools at Christmas.

Brenda Moyse and Alan Wroath, on behalf of the Lions, are pictured receiving a cheque for £400 presented by TAC's Andy Hughes and Dene Medland.

On the racing front, TAC held its monthly Tavy 5k race on Saturday, where junior runner Lucas Sweeney from City of Plymouth AC was the stand-out achiever.

He not only won the event in 17min 5s, more than 1min 20s ahead of second place, he also broke the course record in the U14 age category. TAC junior Jack Anthony took second place, followed by Vet 40M runner Jon Scott from Plymouth Harriers.

Regular attendees at this race should note that there will not be a race in October due to Goosey Fair.

Elsewhere, on Sunday, TAC pair Tracey and Robert Oxborough took part in the Torbay 10k. Amongst 1,142 finishers, Tracey finished in 1:01:35, 5th in her FV60 age category whilst Robert, a new and improving runner, completed in a creditable 1:23:30.

Finally and also on Sunday, Carole Walters was TAC's sole representative at the Bude Pirate Run - roughly 8 miles of hilly trail running amid coastal scenery. With a time of 1:17:26, she had a great race - winning her FV60 age category and finishing 8th female overall out of 91.
