The Lambs got off to the perfect start scoring with their first attack in the opening minute. A fine move saw them open up the Argyle defence and Tallan Burns was on hand to flash the ball home from 15 yards.
Within a minute Argyle equalised when they were awarded a penalty when Warren Daw slipped in the difficult conditions and brought down Alex Battle in the penalty box. Battle made no mistake from the spot kick. Five minutes later Argyle took the lead when the impressive Battle latched on to a good pass on the edge of the penalty area and fired home an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the net. This set back fired the visitors into action as they began get control of the game. In the 20th minute Argyle keeper Cooper made a magnificent save as he turned away a terrific shot from Taylor Elliot for a corner kick.
On the half hour Cooper made another tremendous save, diving full length to turn Stanley’s fine effort away for a corner kick.
Seven minutes later saw Josh Grant, who was struggling having not fully recovered from his injury, replaced by Jack Crago.
Crago was soon in the action and levelled the scores in the 38th minute as he was first to react when a corner kick was not cleared and he slotted the ball home from six yards.
Four minutes later the Lambs took a deserved lead, when a fine ball from Josh Robins saw Crago beat his marker and hit the ball pass the advancing Cooper in the Argyle goal to make it 3-2 to Tavistock.
Cooper then made a really fine save to deny Stanley from increasing the Lambs’ lead, just before the interval.
The second half saw Argyle having plenty of possession but the visitors defence were in no mood to concede their lead. When called upon Sam Borthwick was in fine form, making some smart saves to deny Goulty, and Jephcott from levelling the scores.
In the 75th minute the Lambs missed a great chance to extend their lead when a shot which was on target was deflected away for a corner kick. Warren Daw headed the corner kick inches over the bar. Thee minutes later the Lambs extended their lead when another fine move saw when Josh Robins provided the perfect cross for substitute Cairo to sweep the ball home to seal a deserved victory.
This was a fine team performance by the Lambs after a long lay off through cancellation of matches due to the weather. Both teams should be congratulated on providing a really good game of high quality football in very difficult conditions. The whole team can be pleased with their individual performances to ensure a good victory.
