Toolstation Western premierTAVISTOCK AFC 3CRIBBS 1THE Lambs recorded their 12th straight league win against a good Cribbs side from Bristol.

It was the visitors that got off to a good start, creating a chance in the opening minutes but the home defence scrambled the ball clear. This stirred Tavistock into action and they opened the scoring in the fifth minute when a fine move resulted in Josh Grant being fouled in the penalty area. The referee pointed to the penalty spot and Jack Crago stepped forward to hit the ball low into the corner of the net.

The visitors played some good football and as the game flowed from end to end they nearly equalised in the 25th minute when White dragged his shot from six yards wide of the target.

Within a minute at the other end Grant missed a similar opportunity as his shot flashed wide of the target from five yards.

The home side doubled their lead on the half hour when fine work and pass by Grant found Ben Cross, whose deft cross was superbly volleyed home by Jordan Annear.

Tavistock put the visitors’ defence under pressure and should have scored when Josh Robins slicing his shot wide of the target before Crago headed over the bar. The Lambs increased their lead two minutes before the interval — good work by Warren Daw, who created the opening, allowed Ben Cross to score from 14 yards for 3-0. Grant then went close for Tavistock as his shot went over the bar.

Cribbs started the second half on the front foot with Hedges heading inches wide of the target. This scare prompted the home team into action; in the 54th minute Crago volleyed over the bar from ten yards. Back came Cribbs and a fine effort by Hodgeson was cleared for a corner kick.

Crago then found Grant who produced a terrific square pass into the penalty area but it was inches out of the reach of the on rushing Jordan Annear three yards from goal. Tom Watson in the home goal was called on to make a smart save to deny Vincent from scoring. Manager Stuart Henderson then made a substitution with Tallan Burns replacing Crago. A fine move by Cribbs saw Harrison in on goal but he shot over the bar from 15 yards. Liam Prynn replaced Grant, two minutes later Alex Cairo replaced Cross.

Play continued to flow from end to end with Harrison going close for the visitors. The Lambs responded with a great run by Prynn who found Annear but Hodges in the visitors’ goal produced another excellent save to prevent the home side scoring. The Lambs saw the rest of the game out to record their 12th straight win in the league and put the teams at the top under pressure. This was a hard earned victory over a well organised Cribbs side in a solid all round team performance. The man of the match was Lamb’s Dave Hallett who was outstanding in the midfield.
