TAVISTOCK AFC completed their friendly fixture programme with another convincing win over a resilient, hard working Bere Alston team. The visitors took control from the start and settled into their pass and move football. In the 15th minute Josh Robins found Jack Crago but his fine cross into the six yard box was inches out of reach of the on rushing Ricki Shepherd. On 20 minutes the home team had their first real attack on goal but Gallway was denied by Jack Ord, who pushed his effort over the bar.

A good move  with Cross and Krac exchanging passes saw the latter’s cross headed inches over the bar by Crago. Both Rosenquest and Hobbs then had efforts well saved by the home keeper. The Lambs nearly got caught by a counter attack, when Bray shot wide of the target. The Lambs opened the scoring in the 40th minute from a free kick just outside the penalty area; Shane Krac hit a powerful shot low into the corner of the net.

The Lambs scored their second goal early in the second half when another good ball from defence through midfield saw Crago raid down the left, his cross found Shepherd, whose astute pass set up Shane Krac to fire home from eight yards. On the hour another fine move resulted in a corner kick; the ball was cleared but collected by Shepherd outside the penalty area — his fine pass found Ben Cross and his inch perfect cross was headed home by Dan Follett. The Lambs continued to dominate and only some resolute defending and good goalkeeping denied  them from increasing their lead.

This was a comfortable win for Tavistock, but they will probably be slightly disappointed with their finishing.

Tiverton Town 2

THE Lambs produced a top quality performance to defeat Southern League side Tiverton. The home team were denied from taking the lead when visiting keeper Gibson made a good save to deny Glynn Hobbs, following good work by Jack Crago.

Tiverton’s first penetrating attack saw Josh Oak make a fine save to deny Landricombe from scoring. Back came the Lambs and Crago’s pace  on the left flank resulted in him producing a great cross but Luke Brown’s shot flew inches wide of the target. In the tenth minute a great pass from Rosenquest found Crago in the penalty area, where he was pulled down by a defender; however Hobbs fired the penalty kick wide of the target.

Four minutes later the home team opened the scoring when a poor goal kick fell to Hobbs, who made no mistake to fire home from 20 yards. The Lambs were now playing some delightful football and a great move with Rogers, Crago, and Krac saw Hobbs shot hit the post. Oak was then called upon to make a good save as he pushed a shot from Duff around the post in the 25th minute. Crago had a shot cleared off the goal line by Kingdom. On the half hour the Lambs doubled their lead when a great run by Crago saw him get into the penalty area, beat three defenders, before slotting the ball into the net from 12 yards.

Five minutes later the home team made it three when Crago and Hobbs set up Steve Rogers, who hit an unstoppable thunderbolt from 25 five yards into the top corner of the net.

Tiverton reduced the deficit a minute before the interval when Tavistock failed to clear the danger from a set piece, allowing Landricombe to score from close range. The visitors made a strong start in the second half with Williams shooting wide when well placed. Then Josh Oak made a great save to deny Williams in the 51st minute. The Lambs increased their lead five minutes later when another fine move put Sean Krac in on goal he thumped the ball past Gibson low into the corner of the net.

Tiverton were now having their best period in the game and on the hour Landricombe got his second of the evening following a free kick.

Five minutes later Oak made a great double save preventing the visitors from reducing the arrears. The home team weathered the storm.  In the 69th Shepherd shot over the bar from 12 yards; Shepherd then became provider his great run and cross set up Shane Krac but he shot over from ten yards.

Manager Stuart Henderson made substitutions with goal keeper Jack Ord replacing the excellent Oak and Ord soon made a good save to deny Landricombe from scoring. In the 80th minute a great passing move split the visitors’ defence open, Hobbs was in on goal and he calmly rounded the keeper and stroke the ball into the net. In the dying minutes another terrific passing move down the left with Josh Robins cutting in from the by line, his pass found Rosenquest, whose shot hit the bar — the ball fell to Robins who thundered the ball home to complete the scoring. This was a terrific performance by the Lambs, who fully deserved their victory.
