Devon Senior Cup first round
North Tawton 0
Chagford 2
AN own goal and a single from skipper Andrew Davis were the deciding factors between these local rivals at The Wordens.
Chagford felt they may have deserved more but gaining the second round was the important thing and this was achieved quite comfortably. New signing, Ben Barkwill, gave a man of the match performance and should prove to be capable of holding his own at this level.
Both teams return to league action this week, the Chagford firsts hosting Topsham Town Reserves and the Reserves travelling to Sandford. Both matches kick-off at 3pm.

Ashburton Reserves 1
AN eleventh minute goal from Aaron Osborne was enough to see the Ashes through to the next round, although their hosts put up a good fight to the end.
Osborne’s chip was looking to clear the bar but dipped at the last minute, leaving Chagford goalkeeper Joe Knight unable to do anything but watch the ball drop into his net. Knight later pulled off some tremendous saves to keep his side alive.
Chagford gradually played their way into the game but without too much penetration of Ashburton’s defence. All too often they misplaced their final pass or failed to get bodies into their opponents’ penalty area.
Newcomers Jason Smith and Craig Penberthy each made a good debut, the former prepared to battle alone up front and keep the ball when needed. Dave Penberthy was a calming, controlling influence at the back, a much needed asset.
The visitors held on through the best part of the game but, ten minutes from time, Chagford were presented with a golden opportunity when Bas Loram was tripped in their area.
Loram stepped up to fire in a good penalty but was anguished to see John Green turn his shot round the post, thus preserving Ashburton’s lead to the final whistle. Max Floyd-Walker at full back was the Chagford man of the match.
