THE Lambs got off to a fine start as they opened the scoring in the fifth minute. A terrific passing move involving three players — Kelvin Fyneboy found Lewis Coombes,  whose first time pass found Johnson, who squared the ball to find Fyneboy who had continued his run to eight yards from goal, before calmly slotting the ball home.

The home side started to dominate the game and increased their lead in the 15th minute when a corner kick saw Lewis Daw’s header blocked; the ball fell to Dan Follett and his shot was charged down but Jack Crago produced a fabulous overhead kick, which flew over keeper Robinson into the net.

Four minutes later Robinson made a magnificent save to deny Fyneboy from increasing the lead. The Lambs were playing some great football and causing the visitors’ defence all sorts of problems. Another eye catching move saw Fyneboy and Coombes exchanged passes, but Coombes blazed his shot wide of the target. With more composure in front of goal the Lambs would have led more than 2-0 at the interval.

Helston certainly started the second half with more purpose, Galsworthy went close and a few minutes later the same player had a shot well saved by Jack Ord. Fyneboy  and Coombes caused the visitors problems with their pace and ball control throughout the 90 minutes. The Lambs increased their lead in the 51st minute when Jack Crago was put in on goal; he rounded the keeper and his shot, which was heading for the goal, was deflected into the net by a defender.

The Lambs were now in cruise control, and had a number of chances to increase their lead with Johnson, Coombes and Fyneboy all going close when well placed.

This was another fine performance by the Lambs, as they dominated the game. To be fair the visitors tried hard to compete, but the home team were always in control. The whole team can take credit in a fine all round performance. This result sees the team move up to fourth in the league.

n This Saturday Tavistock AFC are away to Newquay in the league, kick-off 3pm, while Tavistock Reserves are away to Torpoint in the East Cornwall premier, kick-off 2pm.

THIS local derby, played last week, provided an entertaining encounter with both sides playing some good attacking football.

The Lambs started brightly and almost opened the scoring in the third minute when a fine move saw Dan Follett’s shot fly just wide of the target. Two minutes later Josh Robins was brought down on the edge of the area; Danny Brooks’ free kick was inches wide of the target.

Jack Ord in the home goal was called upon to make a really smart save from Avi-Riordan.

Daw and Shepherd combined well; the latter produced a magnificent cross but Lewis Coombes’ header was brilliantly saved by Brothwark.

Back came Callington as they put some nice passing moves together, but the home defence was in fine form and in no mood to let the visitors get the upper hand. The Lambs then had the ball in the net when Coombes found Brooks who chipped the keeper, but he was adjudged offside.

The home team broke the deadlock in the 30th minute when Shepherd  and Coombes combined well, with the ball finding Coombes, who placed the ball in the corner of the net.

The visitors were having their fair share of the play, so the home defence had to be at their best to restrict their efforts coming from outside the penalty area. The Lambs took a slender one goal advantage at the interval.

Tavistock upped their intensity in the second half, and deservedly doubled their lead in the 51st minute, when Lewis Coombes found Jack Crago with a delightful ball; Crago made no mistake as he fired home from 18 yards.

Callington reduced the arrears when from a corner kick the ball fell to Adam Hill who held off two challenges and fired home from 12 yards.

Five minutes later the Lambs restored their two goal advantage, when from a corner kick a goalmouth scramble saw shots from Dan Follett and Lewis Coombes were blocked by the visitors’ defence, but the ball fell to Crago who slotted it home from five yards. The Lambs made it four in the 70th minute when a great move saw Shepherd set up Coombes to fire home from 15 yards. Back came Callington as Luke Avis-Riordan rounded two players before chipping the ball over Ord and into the net.

As the final whistle approached the Lambs were awarded a penalty when Shepherd was brought down in the area.

Coombes calmly stepped up and slotted a perfect penalty into the corner of the net to complete his hat-trick.
