Devon & Exeter Football three?Chagford 3 Woodbury 2
IF ever there was a match in which Chagford had to grind out a result, this was always going to be the one.
Woodbury came to the Memorial Fields well organised and prepared to thwart their hosts at every opportunity. It was Chagford’s wastefulness in front of goal that played a major role, as much as anything Woodbury brought with them.
Davis and Sampson wasted chances but it was often the final pass that went astray, bringing on frustrations for the blues. Woodbury capitalised towards the end of the half when Robert Crews fired home just before half-time.?It took until the hour mark for Chagford to equalise, Ben Barkwill netting a seventh time in seven consecutive matches.
Still Woodbury held out, stifling the home team and breaking free for Andrew Bennett to give them back the lead fifteen minutes from time. Reuben Sampson restored parity five minutes later and both sides might have been grateful for a point apiece. With time running out, substitute Davon Friend knocked the ball home for a rare goal, that sent the home support into raptures.
