CALLINGTON TOWN RESERVES 4
LISKEARD ATHLETIC 2
PLAYING their first game of 2020, Callington Town’s second team brushed off the cobwebs and conceded an early goal before they recorded a comfortable victory over their local rivals at Ginsters Marsh.
Town had the worst possible start when the visitors opened the scoring after just six minutes. However, the home side gained their feet and became used to the game and began to press themselves; their efforts were rewarded when they were gifted the equaliser on 21 minutes when the Liskeard right back’s pass back to their goalkeeper was missed by the keeper and nestled in the back of the neck.
The Marshmen took encouragement from that gift and on the half hour found themselves ahead when Luke Pearce fired home.
Callington continued their dominance after the restart and Corey Freeman extended the lead on 53 minutes before grabbing a quality second on 67 minutes to put the game out of reach of the visitors.
Liskeard had the last word as Town legs naturally faded but their 89th minute strike was a mere consolation as Town held on to grab a valuable three points.
