Chagford 8
Budleigh Salterton Reserves 1
CHAGFORD totally crushed a brave and spirited Budleigh Salterton side that had the misfortune to face a team in superb form.
Reuben Sampson netted his first of four goals in just the first few seconds and from then on it was all downhill for the visitors.
Sampson doubled his tally on 17 minutes while Will Cork put his side 3-0 up before the break.
Andrew Davis hit a fourth, five minutes after half-time and Chagford were out of sight.
In fairness, their young opponents continued to battle but a heavy pitch and a solid home defence held them at bay. Using the flanks sensibly kept Chagford away from a boggy centre area and allowed them more pace and control.
Sampson completed his hat-trick in the 52nd minute, going on to notch a fourth before coming off.
Sam Buckingham’s 40 yard free-kick may have been thought to be pick of the goals but every goal of the afternoon was of quality, as Jack Phillips showed when he drove home the eighth from distance.
The only blip came two minutes from time when Gareth Davies scored a consolation for the visitors.
